The most common use of turmeric is probably to relieve a sore throat. In India, Haldi-milk is a popular remedy for coughs and colds. Add ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder to a cup of milk and stir it well. Bring to a boil and drink it while still hot. If you prefer, you could add honey, sugar or jaggery to make it sweet. Some people also add peppercorn or ginger to this preparation for added benefit. Generally taken at night, it is known to improve symptoms of cold by the next morning.

Thank You Carrie. Glad you found it useful 🙂
Thanks Shubha 🙂
yes Jessie, nursing moms too must stay away from turmeric in supplement form. However small quantities in food are not a problem. I say this because in India women continue to use it in their curries during pregnancy and while nursing!! 🙂 Also, external use is not a problem.
Thanks for pointing it out though. Will make the edit 🙂

Wow, so many wonderful ways to benefit from this amazing spice, so useful thanks Kimberly! Carrie 🙂
What a great resource! Thanks for all the great info – I love turmeric and have explored using it, but I am still nursing, and as you mentioned pregnancy, I have also heard that nursing moms should stay away from using it medicinally in these ways. But I will pin this post as a reminder for all the variety of ways it can be used, aside from the fabulous "golden milk" I've heard of.
