It is Day 15 of the “30 Day House Cleaning Challenge”! You are halfway through!! That’s fantastic!
Before you start with today’s task, I want you to do something very important. I want you to look back at all that you have achieved in the last 15 days. Take a look around you and savor your success.
It hasn’t been a bed of roses. Yet, you got this far! Trust me, not everyone does. You have worked really hard to get here and you should be proud of yourself. The good news is that it just gets easier from here on.
So let’s keep the momentum going through the remaining half of the series.
Day 15: Deep Clean Kitchen Shelves & Racks
So far you’ve deep cleaned the kitchen, the microwave, the fridge. Now we can get started with the open shelves and racks in the kitchen. We will move on to the closed cabinets next week.
If you don’t have many open shelves or racks in your kitchen, you can start with the cabinets today itself and continue with what’s left next week.
Important Note:
So, whatever you do, don’t get overwhelmed and work at your own pace. It doesn’t matter if you take a bit longer to complete the challenge.
Do whatever works for you – skip certain tasks, add others. But, just clean something!
Today’s Cleaning Plan
Daily Cleaning Tasks: Continue with these daily tasks and use a checklist to stay on track!
Weekly Cleaning Tasks: Surface clean the Kitchen and spend some extra time deep cleaning it.
Monthly Deep Cleaning tasks
- Deep Clean Open Shelves & Racks: Remove all the items from the shelf/rack. While doing so, clean any item that needs cleaning and throw anything that needs to be discarded. If the shelf is lined, remove the lining or discard it (if you use newspaper). wipe down the shelf and clean with a suitable cleaner. Finally replace and organize all the items back onto the shelf.NOTES:
1) If there are several shelves, start from the top and work to the bottom.
2) Use an cleaner that is safe for use on the material that the shelf is made of. - Deep Clean kitchen Cabinets (optional for today): Remove all the contents of the cabinet. Throw away any thing that it old and useless and has not been used in a long time. Thoroughly wipe down the inside of the cabinet and line it, if necessary. Put back all the items inside (after cleaning if necessary) and reorganize as necessary.
1) Don’t empty all cabinets at one go. Start with one and when done move on to the other.
2) Start from the top and move to the bottom cabinets.
3) Move in a systematic manner so you don’t miss out on any cabinets.

Tips to remember during the 30 Day House Cleaning Challenge
-
- Before you begin, gather all the necessary tools and keep them ready. You could get yourself a cleaning caddy or just use a basket or box.
- Decide on a specific amount of time that you can/will spend cleaning and set a timer. Work as quickly as you can within this time and don’t get distracted. (Except if it’s an emergency of some kind!)
- Start cleaning from the top of the room and work your way down. This will prevent dust falling on surfaces that you have already cleaned.
- Work from one side of the room to the other side, in a systematic matter, so that you don’t miss any spots.
- When the timer goes off, stop working! You can catch up with what you have missed during your next cleaning session.
- Use checklists to track your progress and to ensure that you don’t miss out anything. Checklists are especially useful in instances where you cannot complete a task and need to reschedule it.
