There are crumbs on the floor, the upholstery needs vacuuming, there’s stuff lying on the backseat! Let’s face it moms – when you have kids, your car is going to get messy. You need to clean your car on a regular basis, just like you do your house.

I get it. We moms are always so busy that it’s easy to forget that our cars need cleaning too. But if you neglect cleaning your car, it’s going to get messy. And nobody likes to manage a messy car.

Here are some simple tips on how you can keep your car clean and organized always.

1. WIPE DOWN SURFACES.

Always keep some auto wipes in your car. Whenever you have some time to kill, grab a wipe and clean all hard surfaces to remove dust and dirt. As an alternative to expensive auto wipes you can use baby wipes or even make your own!

2. Get some Rubber Floor Mats

Invest in some rubber floor mats to protect the carpeting. That way, all you need to do is take out the mats, shake out the dirt and crumbs and wash them clean.

They are worth the investment and you won’t have to worry about staining or ruining your carpet from spillages or tracking in mud.

3. CLEAN UP Carpets and upholstery

Remove all the floor mats and wash and clean them. Vacuum clean the interior of the car. Vacuum the carpet and the seats and don’t forget to do the trunk area too.

Once your car is all cleaned up, freshen it up with some car freshener.

4. CLEAN THE CUP HOLDERS.

Don’t miss out on the cup holders. Those need cleaning up as well. Use a cleaning cloth moistened with cleaning solution and clean them till the grime and stickiness is gone.

Protect the cup holders from future messes by lining them with coasters or silicone muffin moulds. When it’s time to clean just take them out and wash them.

5. HAVE A TRASH Bin IN THE CAR.

Always have something to put in the trash. It could be a fancy car trash bin or even a simple plastic bag or any container. But make sure you have something within easy reach, to throw trash into.

6. BE ORGANIZED.

Car organizers are great for keeping your car clean and organized. Hang a backseat organizer on the front seat for sippy cups, books, towels etc that your kids might need while in the car.

Prevent messes by carrying a container or a sectioned dish for in case your kids need to have something to eat while in the car.

7. Have a Vomit Management Kit

The only thing worse than having to clean the mess in your car is having to clean puke in your car. You can prevent this by having a vomit management kit in your car at all times. Have small bin containing vomit bags, cleaning rags, a trash bag, water for cleaning, wipes, vomit bags, hand sanitizer, a change of clothes, towels etc. In addition put a small bucket or container within easy reach for sudden episodes!
