Day 1 of the 28 Days of Self Love Challenge

Today’s Challenge is to take a deep breath, every hour. Deep breathing helps to reduce stress and anxiety and can also help you improve your attention span and lower pain levels.

Set a timer to remember to do this every hour. Every time the timer goes, stop whatever you are doing, closed your eyes, relax and take a deep breath. When you exhale, let all you tension flow out and relax.


My Day 1 experience

I first experienced the benefits of deep breathing when I had joined a yoga class some years ago. I was amazed by how calm and energetic and happy I felt after the first session itself. But then the pandemic hit, and although I tried to continue practicing whatever I had learned, at home, I couldn’t keep up.

The day started out good and the first thing that I did was set my alarm on repeat, to go off after every hour. And, thank God I did. Otherwise there is no way I would have remembered to stop and breathe amidst of all the chaos! And of course it got so addictive that I actually took some extra deep breaths along the way 😉

The best part about it was that my 7 year old noticed me and began imitating me.You see, my boy is a bit of an impatient guy, who gets extremely annoyed and upset when he is unable to do certain things to perfection. I have been trying my best to get him to stop and take a deep breath when he feels that way, but he just won’t listen. And today when he noticed me doing it, he just joined in. Actions speak louder than words – Lesson learned!!

Another benefit of today’s challenge was that I was much calmer than usual, because of which my children didn’t drive me as crazy as they usually do. And that was the second lesson I learned today – When i’m calm, my kids are calm. And i’m in a better position to handle them when they have a meltdown.

This is a habit I intend to carry forward .

    Great advice!! I have been doing this for some years now after working in such a stressful job that i learned to use this as a stress reliever…It works very well at relieving stress and anxiety too!!
