HAPPIER HOLIDAYS: Tips for Making this Special Season Merry with Less Stress

Here are 5 simple tips to help you manage holiday stress and save money along the way.

1. Get organized early

The holidays can be a very busy time, but getting organized early can help to reduce the amount of stress and anxiety you feel.

The holidays are a time of joy and celebration, but for many people they can also be a time of stress and anxiety. One way to reduce the amount of stress you feel during the holiday season is to get organized early. If you start planning and preparing well in advance, you’ll have less work to do closer to the holidays, and you’ll be less likely to feel overwhelmed.

One way to get organized is to make a list of all the things you need to do. Make sure to include things like buying presents, cooking meals, cleaning and decorating your home, sending out holiday cards, planning your holiday budget etc. Break down each task into smaller steps, and then put deadlines on each step. That way, you’ll know exactly what you need to do each day in order to stay on track. Delegate tasks to other family members to help lighten your load.

Planning ahead not only eliminate stress, it also helps keep your spending in check. It is, in my opinions, the best way to manage holiday stress.

2. Set a budget for gifts, food, and decorations

The holidays can be a stressful time for many people, especially when it comes to money. Here are five simple tips to help you set and stick to a budget so that you can manage holiday stress without breaking the bank.

1. Decide how much money you want or need to spend on gifts, food, decorations, etc., and stick to that budget. Make a list of who you need to buy for, and set a budget for each person.

2. Shop around for the best deals and take advantage of coupons and discounts and consider giving homemade or handmade gifts instead of purchasing something expensive.

3. Set aside a certain amount of money to be used solely for holiday expenses.

4. Avoid impulse buying and stick to your budget.

5. Plan ahead and spread out your holiday shopping so that you aren’t making last minute purchases at a higher cost.

Follow these tips, and you’ll be able to enjoy the holidays without the added stress of overspending or not sticking to

3. Simplify your holiday menu

The holidays are a time for celebration, but all the preparation and planning can be overwhelming. This year, simplify your holiday menu by choosing dishes that are easy to make and require few ingredients. You’ll save time in the kitchen and have more time to enjoy with family and friends.

One way to simplify your menu is to choose dishes that can be made ahead of time. For example, you can prepare a batch of cranberry sauce or pie crusts several days before Thanksgiving or Christmas. Another option is to choose recipes that use common ingredients so you don’t have to spend hours shopping for specialty items. For example, instead of making a traditional turkey dinner, try a roast beef or pork roast instead. And finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Ask your spouse or kids to lend a hand in the kitchen – they’ll love being involved in the preparations.

By simplifying your holiday menu, you can eliminate stress and enjoy the true spirit of the season.

4. Learn to say no – important way to manage holiday stress

The holidays can be a stressful time for many people. Especially for those who don’t know to say no! There is the pressure to buy the perfect gifts, to have a perfectly decorated home, and to cook the perfect meal. And if you add in travel, family gatherings, and work parties, it’s no wonder that so many people feel overwhelmed this time of year.

Reduce some of the stress of the holiday season by learning to say no. It may seem like an impossible task, but it can be done. Here are three tips for saying no:

1) Be honest with yourself about what you can handle.

2) Say no clearly and firmly.

3) Don’t feel guilty about saying no. Your mental and physical health should always come first.

By setting boundaries and saying no to the things that are not important to you, you focus on the things that actually matter to you the most and have a happier and more enjoyable holiday season.

5. Take some time for yourself

Amidst all the hustle and bustle, make sure to schedule in some down time for yourself. Relax with a good book, take a long bath, or just take a few deep breaths.

Self care is an important part of stress management. This is especially true during the holiday season. Practicing regular self care will help you effectively manage holiday stress and enjoy the season.
